Lynne David with Bill Nye and Dr. Eugenie Scott, Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education, at the Rio Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a performance of Penn & Teller.
It was quite a thrill to attend The Amazing Meeting, the terrifically fun celebration of science and critical thinking sponsored by the James Randi Educational Foundation in Las Vegas, July 14 - 17, at the South Point Hotel and Casino. This year's theme, "TAM 9 From Outer Space," focused on space science and skepticism with speakers Richard Dawkins (who previewed his science book for children due out later this year), Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michael Shermer, Phil Plaitt, and Bill Nye, among other notables. Entertainment was provided by Paul Provenza's Satiristas! comedy show (where I was introduced to the very talented Jamie Kilstein of Citizen Radio), a private party hosted by Penn Jillette, James Randi's Live Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge and many others. Workshops attended included "Defending Evolution in the Classroom and Beyond," "Skepticism in the Classroom," and "Raising Skeptics."
The Richard Dawkins Foundation announced plans to team up with Camp Quest next year to offer activities for the children of attendees.
See you there in 2012!
